About St Lucia

Visit St Lucia

St Lucia is an eastern Caribbean island, with a volcanic landscape known for its stunning scenery, beaches and rainforest.

English is the official language with French creole spoken by many locals. As a Commonwealth nation, driving is the same as the UK, on the left hand side of the road; and as the roads are windy and hilly a 4x4 / 4WD is recommended if hiring a car.

The currency is the East Caribbean Dollar (ECD), but the US Dollar is also accepted currency in many places. Cash machines are available in towns and supermarkets, and most places accept debit / credit cards.

Environment

As St Lucia is a tropical island, please do consider having appropriate sunscreen and mosquito repellent.

Take care when swimming, observing any warnings as currents can be strong on some beaches. Water shoes may also be useful in some rocky parts when snorkeling.

Emergencies

Emergency contact numbers are 911, the same as the USA.

999 (as per the UK emergency number) will also work for the police and fire.

The private hospital, Tapion Hospital, near the capital Castries is suitable for tourists; but if you require medical attention during your stay, contact Will your concierge who can advise.

Pharmacies are available within the local supermarkets.

Personal safety

As with many places around the world, caution in crowded or poorly lit areas is advised.

Keep your belongings secure and use approved transport and excursions to help ensure your safe is happy, safe and secure.

There is a local police station within Marigot Bay by the waterfront, if you have any concerns.
